When goals hold you back

First off, this is not a post to veer you away from setting goals - however sometimes we become too obsessed with being “perfect” in our path to success.  NO ONE IS PERFECT! This can cause utmost amounts of stress if a flexible mindset is not present.  This stress can be amplified over the holidays as food at events and traffic may be outside of your control.

For the macro counter/keto dieter/Paleo etc....

You don’t gain 15lbs in one day.  You don’t lose 15lbs in one day.  It’s through sound eating habits that you develop a healthy lifestyle over time. Enjoy a few treats over the holidays and focus on the time spent with friends/family.

For the athlete who trains 7 days/week...

Your biceps don’t grow  inches in 1 month.  Your muscles don’t grow in the gym.  It’s your rest and recovery time where you’re muscles adapt to the stimulus of your hard work!  Enjoy your rest and get outside of the gym for a hike over the holidays!

For the perfectionist…

You can’t control the weather.  You can’t control sitting in traffic for 3 hours on the way to work.  You CAN shift your mindset to accept when things are outside of your control.

Especially in the holiday season allow yourself to enjoy events with family and friends.  This is the time where you put the healthy habits you’ve developed into practice.  We all want longevity, and allowing yourself treats at Christmas is a part of that.  When your nutrition/fitness goals begin to stress you out, it’s time to take a step back and find moderation.

A tip for not overeating at Christmas events is to keep protein and fiber intake high during the day.  Then when you’re at a dinner make sure to fill up on veggies and lean meats first.  Make sure to save room for dessert, but stop eating when you are full!

Merry Christmas!
