WHAT IS CROSSFIT

What is CrossFit?

Here's what you need to know...

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements - core movements of everyday life. They move large loads over long distances, so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time. Intensity is essential for results and is measurable. The more work you do in less time, or the higher the power output, the more intense the effort. By employing a constantly varied approach to training, functional movements and intensity lead to dramatic gains in fitness.

CrossFitters are “Generalists” rather than “Specialists”. We incorporate Olympic weightlifting, power lifting, kettlebells, body weight, gymnastics, and endurance exercises including rowing and running. All workouts are scaled to each individuals athletic capabilities and limitations.

By training in multiple fitness domains, CrossFit targets 10 major components of physical fitness:

  1. Cardio-respiratory endurance
  2. Stamina
  3. Muscular strength
  4. Flexibility
  5. Power
  6. Speed
  7. Agility
  8. Balance
  9. Coordination
  10. Accuracy

Training for General Physical Preparedness (GPP) primes you for the obstacles you will face in everyday life. All workouts are measurable in some capacity, therefore the improvement in your fitness levels are visible and easily tracked. The CrossFit program is driven by data. Using whiteboards, running a clock, keeping accurate scores and records of your achievements, and precisely defining the rules and standards for performance, we not only motivate unprecedented output but derive metrics at every workout. This data has important value well beyond motivation.

The community that spontaneously arises when people do these workouts together is a key component of why CrossFit is so effective. Harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition and fun of sport or game yields an intensity that cannot be matched by other means.

A new “Workout of the Day” (WOD)  is posted everyday and completed within a class environment. Within this class environment, a community is formed and relationships are built.

How does this help your life outside the gym?
