Inaugural Powerlifting Competition Series

For the first time ever, FirePower is hosting an in-house powerlifting competition on Saturday December 3rd at 9:30AM. It will be run in two phases. First, to test your current strength benchmarks and second, a retest in the spring.

We encourage all members to test their current strength, whether you are a newbie, fire breather or an FP Legend. This meet is for everyone, and is truly a competition against yourself! Along with adult members, the Varsity babell athletes will follow alongside to test their own limits.

Powerlifting consists of three attempts at max weight on three different lifts:

  1. Back squat
  2. Bench press
  3. Deadlift

For consistency between the first and second round of testing, we will be following the International Powerlifting Federation 2023 rulebook. Three judges will validate each lift. This is to ensure you are holding yourself to a higher technical standard (no half reps!).

As CrossFitters and fitness enthusiasts, it is imperative that we set goals. Goals give us something to strive for. They help with motivation and create discipline in training. You may have a specific weight for a lift you want to hit or even a total that currently feels out of reach. Either way, you have something to work towards. If you have trouble setting your goals, this is the perfect opportunity to book a Check In & Chat with one of our coaches!

Registration is $60 with a participant cap of 20 athletes. If you have any questions or are looking for more information please reach out to either Coach Jordan or Coach Tonya.
